ArmInfo. On January 17, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met with the organizers of the ceremony of presenting the prize of the head of state "For the world contribution to the sphere of information technologies".
According to the press service of the president, the participants of the meeting informed the head of state that they achieved the main goals that are the basis for awarding the award: during the last 8 years, 8 laureates of the award visited Armenia, who made an exceptional contribution to the development of the IT sphere in the world and enjoy large authority. According to the organizers, one of the goals was to raise the recognition of Armenia in the world as a developing center of high technologies by awarding the award. In this direction, according to the participants of the meeting, there is a problem of increasing the effectiveness of efforts, with the aim of which the relevant work is currently being carried out. The organizers also noted that three of the laureates continued their cooperation and stepped closer to Armenia with practical steps.
In particular, the head of the development department of the Cisco company Mario Mazzola donated a large sum of money to the American University of Armenia, and the general director of the company Kaspersky Lab Eugene Kaspersky signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Russian-Armenian University (RAU) in order to open a new master program for development cooperation between the university and the laboratory. In turn, the former CEO of Hitachi, Yugio Makimoto, impressed by the visit to Yerevan published the book "Armenia as an Innovative Country".
Participants of the meeting also touched upon the main trends in the development of the IT sector in recent years. Also, the organizers presented proposals on the possibilities for further development of high technologies in Armenia.
