ArmInfo. The free economic zone "Meghri" is a rather promising, serious platform in the direction of establishing relations between Iran and the European Union and the EAEU. Vardan Voskanyan, head of the department of Iranian studies at the Yerevan State University expressed opinion to ArmInfo.
On December 15 it is planned to open 100% belonging to the state Free economic zone "Meghri". The opening of this FEZ will mark the completion of one of the two outlined stages. We are talking about a small area, located on 2 hectares, adjacent to the Meghri checkpoint, with the provision of the main territories. FEZ "Meghri" in this, the first stage has the infrastructure necessary for its operation.
"One can come to a similar conclusion based on the latest impulses in the relations between Iran and the EAEU, and taking into account the recently signed agreement between Armenia and the EU, certain horizons and prospects are opening up in Iran's relations with the European Union importance, especially in the economic context," he noted.
The expert assesses the qualitative use of the Free Economic Zone in Meghri as a step conducive to the development of the Armenian-Iranian relations and also the increase in the volume of trade between the two neighboring countries. The expert associates the prospects of this development with the intensity of efforts of Yerevan and Tehran in the direction of full and effective use of the opportunities of the Free Economic Zone.
