ArmInfo.In January-May 2021, the trade sector of Armenia with a volume of 1.187 trillion drams ($ 2.2 billion), grew by 7.4% per annum (from a 10.8% decline a year  earlier), slightly falling short of 9.4% growth in the same period of  2019. According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of  Armenia, the upward trend is due to the growth in retail and  wholesale trade, in parallel with which there is a noticeable  slowdown in the decline in car trade.

At the same time, in May 2021 alone, the trade sector showed an  increase of 6%, with a volume of 268.2 billion drams ($ 514.5  million) secured.

According to statistics, wholesale trade increased in January-May by  13.1% to 629.3 billion drams, against a decline of 8.1% a year  earlier. In May 2021 alone, the wholesale trade turnover in Armenia  increased by 5.6% to 148.9 billion drams.  Retail trade increased its  revenue in January-May by 2% per annum to 523 billion drams, against  a 13.4% 

decline a year earlier. In May alone, the retail trade turnover  increased by 5.4% to 110 billion drams.

In the structure of retail trade, the largest turnover is provided by  shops (including supermarkets) - 402.5 billion drams or 77% (with a  y-o-y decline of 2.6%), other retail facilities - 78.3 billion drams  or 15% (with a y-o-y growth by 18.4%), followed by consumer goods  markets - 27.2 billion or 5.2% (with a y-o-y growth of 54.2%), stalls  and kiosks - 9.3 billion or 1.8% (with a y-o-y a decline of 18.6%)  and agricultural markets - 5.5 billion or 1% (with y-o-y growth of  29.9%).

The volume of purchase / sale of cars in January-May 2021 decreased  by 3.5% to 34.7 billion drams, against a decline of 11.7% a year  earlier. At the same time, on a monthly basis, the proceeds from the  purchase / sale of cars increased by 22.3% to 9.3 billion drams.

In the structure of the total trade turnover of Armenia, the share of  wholesale trade is 53%, retail - 44.1%, and the remaining 2.9% falls  on the share of purchase / sale of cars.
