ArmInfo. January-May 2023 the volume of cargo transportation in Armenia increased by 10.1% per annum (against 12% in the same period in 2022), amounting to 7,301.5 thousand tons. This is evidenced by the data of the RA Statistical Committee.
According to statistical data, the lion's share of cargo transportation falls on road transport - 70.7% or 5,162.8 thousand tons, with an acceleration of y-o-y growth from 13.9% to 16.9%. The share of railway cargo transportation accounted for 16.4% or 1,198.3 thousand tons (with no change in volume for the year), while air freight increased by 98.4% to 12.7 thousand tons. 927.7 thousand tons of natural gas were delivered through the main pipeline, which is 8.6% lower than the figure for a year ago.
Passenger traffic in the reporting period slowed down the y-o-y growth rate from 41.5% to 24.9%, amounting to 72.2 million people. In particular, the highest rates are recorded by air passenger transportation - 80.9% to 1,883.6 thousand people. Road transportation of passengers increased by 26.5% - up to 57,987.3 thousand people, railway - by 9.2% to 193.4 thousand people, transportation of passengers by electric transport - by 13% to 12,137.8 thousand people.
As a result, cargo turnover in Jan-May 2023 decreased by 6.2% per annum - to 2,194.7 million ton-km, and passenger traffic increased 2-fold - to 2011.8 million passenger-km.
