ArmInfo. Armenian trade sector in Jan-May 2023 accelerated the y- o-y growth rate from 8.9% to 24.5%, providing a volume of 1.8 trillion drams ($4.7 billion). According to the data of the RA Statistical Committee, in May of this year alone, trade turnover in Armenia grew by 9.6% - up to 428.5 billion drams ($1.1 billion). The improvement in dynamics is due to the acceleration of growth rates in all types of trade.
In particular, wholesale trade in Jan-May 2023, accelerated its y-o-y growth from 12.2% to 37.3%, with revenues of 1.1 trillion drams ($2.8 billion). Retail also accelerated y-o-y growth, but at a subdued pace from 1.8% to 4.4%, raising revenue to 628.8 billion drams ($1.6 billion).
The volume of purchase / sale of cars in Jan-May 2023 also accelerated in growth to 55.9% (from 54.7% a year earlier), amounting to about 91 billion drams ($232.8 million).
In retail trade, the largest turnover is provided by stores (including supermarkets) - 81.6% or 513 billion drams (with a y-o-y growth of 6.7%), other retail facilities - 11.9% or 74.9 billion drams (with a y-o-y decline of 4%), followed by markets for consumer goods - 4.1% or 25.7 billion (with a y-o-y decline of 4.1%), kiosks - 1.5% or 9.2 billion (with a y-o-y a 5.3% decline), and agricultural markets - 0.9% or 5.8 billion (with a y-o-y growth of 0.9%).
In total trade turnover of Armenia, wholesale trade dominates - 60.8%, followed by retail - 34.2%, and the share of purchase / sale of cars accounts for 5%. The average settlement rate of the dram in January-May 2023 was 390.41 AMD/$1, and in May 2023 - 386.56 AMD/$1.
